I saw this map over on Slashdot and had to share. It's really interesting to compare countries as well as comparing and contrasting the best and worst counties and what demographic comprises the most fatalities.

Note to self: Sweden and Iceland would make for great road trips.

Thailand and Venezuela would most certainly not.

Look at what percent are motorcycles over in Thailand. That probably plays a big role in the fatalities being so high.

Looks pretty safe in Canada. That seems unusual.

Looks like Dominican Republic is the highest: 41.7 deaths per 100,000. Damn! Don't know how I missed that.

Moose and polar bear related fatalities while motoring weren't numbered.

Notice Russia seems alright.

This is because after 70% of accidents, the driver crawls out the windshield or picks himself off the ground like nothing freaking happened .

Either that or they don't count 50% of the fatalities as traffic related because of the gunshot wounds.

Surprising. I thought India had the highest recorded road deaths in the world.

It may very well have, but these ratings are per 100,000 people. India has 1.24 billion (also known as a metric fuck-ton) people and most are too poor to afford vehicles. So considering the US has about 1/4 the population and a far higher percentage of those being able to drive, it somewhat evens out.
